- BUSYNESS DOES NOT EQUAL FRUITFULNESS -

Luke 10:38-42

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha is busy doing something that is good, preparing a meal and her home for Jesus. She complains to Jesus revealing her belief that her busyness is superior to Mary’s singular focus.

Jesus says to Martha – there are “…few things needed - or indeed only one.”

He is making the point that Mary’s FOCUS is more important “better” than Martha’s BUSYNESS.

BUSYNESS MYTHS //

- Busyness does not equal importance- being busy does not make you more important than others.

- Busyness does not equal effectiveness - you can be BUSY doing things that aren’t important in the big picture or of impact on your vision and goals.

- Busyness does not equal promotion – recognition and reward does not come to those who are BUSY but to those who are FOCUSED on what really matters.

The KEY to FRUITFULNESS is FOCUS!! //

"YOUR FOCUS, YOUR FRUITFULNESS"

5 WAYS TO FOCUS //

FIX YOUR FOCUS - choose what your focus is going to be. MAKE A DECISION. Narrow it down – think about, pray about, ask your leadership about it and then... MAKE A DECISION - You’re not on a tight rope with God, he is with you.

OCCUPY YOUR TIME WITH YOUR FOCUS - spend time doing things that align with your focus. Good intentions count for nothing, start planning and prioritizing your time around your focus.

CULL YOUR SCHEDULE TO ALIGN WITH YOUR FOCUS - get rid of things that don’t line up with your focus, cull them out of your life. Don’t add your focus to your existing schedule! We need to REPLACE OLD focuses or time expenditures with NEW ONES that correlate to our focus. Start saying NO to things that don’t line up (within reason of course – this does not mean cut rest and fun out of your life!)

USE WHAT YOU’VE GOT - Stop wishing you had something that you don’t, recognize what you do have and start WORKIN IT!

STICK WITH IT - don’t give up after 5 minutes of focus, STAY FOCUSED, keep on what you’re doing, sometimes it will feel like it isn’t working, but STICK WITH IT!
